Is slaughtering the Hady of Tamattu' permissible before the Day of Sacrifice?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj

Primary text
The view of Al-Shafi'i permits slaughtering the Hady after entering the Ihram for Hajj, without exception. Regarding the time before the Day of Sacrifice but after exiting the Ihram of Umrah, there are two related possibilities mentioned. The justification for permitting early slaughter is that the sacrifice is a penalty tied to the Ihram, which can be substituted by fasting; thus, it is permissible before the Day of Sacrifice, similar to the penalty (Fidyah) for perfumes or garments. Furthermore, since it can be substituted before the Day of Sacrifice, its performance can also be rendered before that day, like other forms of expiation (Fidyat).
