Standing at Arafah is a pillar of Hajj, and the Hajj is not complete without it, by scholarly consensus (Ijma'). The Prophet, peace be upon him, stated, 'Hajj is Arafah. Whoever arrives before the dawn prayer on the night of Jam' (Muzdalifah), his Hajj is complete.' This indicates its essential nature.
