Primary text

The Talbiyah must be ceased when proceeding to the site of stoning (al-Mawqif). This is supported by the practice of Ibn Mas'ud, Ibn Abbas, and Maymunah, and stated by Ata, Tawus, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Al-Nakha'i, Al-Thawri, Al-Shafi'i, and the Ashab al-Ra'y. The evidence is the narration by Al-Fadl ibn Abbas that the Prophet, peace be upon him, did not cease the Talbiyah until he performed the Rami of Jamrat al-'Aqabah, and the Prophet's word and deed take precedence over any contrary opinion. It is recommended to cease the Talbiyah upon the casting of the first stone, based on the narration specifying this timing, which serves as a necessary clarification.

Supporting text

It is narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas and 'A'ishah that the Talbiyah is cut off upon leaving for the Mawqif. It is narrated from 'Ali and Umm Salamah that they continued the Talbiyah until the sun set on the Day of 'Arafah. Al-Hasan used to say it continues until the dawn prayer on the Day of 'Arafah. Malik held that the Talbiyah is ceased upon going to the mosque.
