When should the Talbiyah (incantation) cease?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
One should continue reciting the Talbiyah while traveling until the throwing of the Jamrat al-'Aqabah (the large pillar on the Day of Sacrifice). This is established by the practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him), 'Umar, and Ibn 'Umar. The Talbiyah is a distinctive rite of Hajj and is not discontinued until the commencement of the acts that permit disrobing from Ihram, the first of which is throwing the Jamrat al-'Aqabah. This practice is recommended so that one is not occupied with anything other than the throwing upon arrival, as the throwing is the greeting (Tahiya) to the site, similar to circumambulation being the greeting to the Masjid.
