What is the time of virtue for throwing the Jamarat (stoning)?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The time of virtue for throwing the Jamarat is after sunrise. Scholars, according to Ibn Abd al-Barr, agree that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed the stoning during the morning (Duha) on the Day of Sacrifice. Jabir reported seeing the Prophet (peace be upon him) stoning the Jamarat in the morning on the Day of Sacrifice, and then again after the sun passed its zenith (Zawal). Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed the young men of Banu Abd al-Muttalib not to throw the Jamarat until the sun rose. Throwing it after sunrise suffices by consensus and is considered preferable.
