Primary text

If the boy reaches puberty or the slave is manumitted while both are already in the state of Ihram (muhriman), it suffices them for the obligatory Hajj. This is stated by Ibn Abbas and constitutes the Madhhab of Shafi'i and Ishaq. Al-Hasan held this view concerning the slave.

Supporting text

Malik held that it does not suffice for them, a position favored by Ibn al-Mundhir. The Ahl al-Ra'y stated that it does not suffice for the slave. As for the boy, if he renews his Ihram after his first legal emission (ihtilam) before the standing at Arafah, it suffices; otherwise, it does not. Their reasoning is that their initial Ihram did not constitute a binding obligation, so it cannot fulfill an obligation, just as if they had remained in their original state.
