Primary text
If the interjection of Hajj occurs after completing the Tawaf of Umrah, it is not permissible for the pilgrim to do so, nor does he become a Qarin.

Al-Shafi'i and Abu Thawr hold this view. It is also narrated from 'Ata. Malik stated that he becomes a Qarin, and this view is recounted from Abu Hanifah, based on the premise that entering Hajj upon the Ihram of Umrah is valid, just as it is valid before the Tawaf. The counter-argument is that upon completing the Tawaf, the individual has commenced the process of exiting the Umrah, and thus adding Hajj to it is invalid, similar to the case after performing Sa'i between Safa and Marwah.
