Primary text

If the woman departs the settlement boundaries, she is not obligated to return if she is near, similar to one who departs without a valid reason. This is because in the case where she left without performing an obligatory act, that obligation is not waived simply by leaving until she reaches the distance where shortening prayers becomes permissible (Masafat al-Qasr). This is because the departure then constitutes the beginning of a new, long journey, distinct from the initial state. In the current case (departing after purity but before Wada'), the farewell circumambulation was not yet obligatory, and its obligation does not commence unless she was already a resident.
