Is adherence solely to the literal text of the Quran sufficient for all rulings?

Primary text
Adherence solely to the literal text of the Quran is insufficient for establishing all religious rulings. As demonstrated in the discourse with the Khawarij messengers by Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, matters such as the number of prescribed prayers, their pillars, cycles, and timings, and the objects, amounts, and thresholds (nisab) for Zakat are not explicitly detailed in the Quran. These matters are established by the practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the subsequent Muslim community, such as the ruling for a menstruating woman to make up missed fasts but not prayers, and the ruling of stoning for the married adulterer.
