Is the hand cut off for stealing a gold or silver vessel whose value reaches the *nisab* only when it is broken down?
Chapter on Amputation in Theft

Book of Ḥudūd (Prescribed Penalties)
Primary text
The hand must be cut off for stealing a vessel made of gold or silver whose value only reaches the *nisab* when it is broken down. This is because the prohibition of the craftsmanship involved is not universally agreed upon, and the value of the vessel without the disputed craftsmanship meets the *nisab*.
