Primary text
Intercession is not permissible once the case reaches the Imam. This is agreed upon universally. This prohibition exists because such intercession constitutes the nullification of a right due to Allah, the Exalted. The Prophet, peace be upon him, became angry when Usama interceded for the Makhzumiyyah woman who stole, exclaiming, "Do you intercede concerning a prescribed punishment of Allah?" Ibn Umar stated that whoever's intercession prevents the establishment of a prescribed punishment of Allah has opposed Allah in His judgment.
