Is it permissible to carry out corporal punishment on a pregnant woman?

Corporal punishment must not be carried out on a woman while she is pregnant, nor immediately after childbirth until her postnatal bleeding (nifas) has ended. This prohibition is instituted to prevent the destruction of both the mother and her child.
