Primary text
There are two differing views on whether the animal, if edible, is permitted to be eaten after the act. One view permits its consumption based on the verse: {Lawful for you are the animals of the grazing livestock} [Quran 5:1], and because it is an animal of a permissible species slaughtered by one qualified to slaughter. However, eating it is disliked due to the suspicion of prohibition.

The second view prohibits eating it, based on the report concerning Ibn Abbas, who disliked its consumption after the act. Furthermore, since the animal must be killed for the sake of Allah's right (to punish the crime), it is not permissible to eat it, similar to other animals designated for execution.
