Is the means of death for the one sentenced to stoning determined?

Primary text
The prescribed manner of execution is to continue throwing stones and other objects upon the condemned until death occurs. Scholars agree that the condemned must be continuously stoned until they die. The unqualified term 'stoning' implies killing by that means, as evidenced by the verse {You will surely be among those stoned} [Quran 26:116]. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stoned two Jews who committed adultery, as well as Ma'iz and the Ghamidiyyah woman, until they died.
