Was the Prophet's (PBUH) judgment of stoning upon the adulterous Jews based on the Torah?

Primary text

The judgment was based on what Allah revealed, not solely on the Torah, as confirmed by the verse: 'Judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from the truth that has come to you. For each of you We have set a law and a way' (Quran 5:48). It is not permissible for the Prophet (PBUH) to rule outside of his own divine law. His confirmation of the Torah's ruling served only to show them that Allah's law agreed with what he commanded, proving their deviation.

Supporting text

It is argued that the Prophet (PBUH) stoned the two Jews according to the ruling of the Torah after consulting it and confirming it as the true divine judgment, citing Quran 5:44 which states that the Torah contains guidance and light for the Prophets who submitted to Allah. However, this is refuted by the principle that the Prophet must judge by what was revealed to him, not by foreign laws.
