What is the ruling regarding the door of a dwelling in relation to defining it as a proper enclosure?
Chapter on Amputation in Theft
Al-Mughni
Book of Ḥudūd (Prescribed Penalties)
Primary text
The door of the dwelling is considered to constitute a Hirz when it is properly installed in its frame, regardless of whether it is locked or open, because this is the manner in which it provides security. If the dwelling is deemed a proper enclosure by this standard, amputation is incumbent upon the thief who steals from it.
