Book of Ḥudūd (Prescribed Penalties)
Primary text
The ruling concerning the slander of the Prophet's mother is the same as the ruling for slandering the Prophet himself. Slander against the Prophet's mother is only deemed worthy of death because it is slander against the Prophet and impugns his lineage.

Slandering the Prophet or his mother constitutes apostasy (riddah) from Islam and exit from the religious community. Likewise, insulting him without slander is apostasy, but insulting him without slander is nullified by embracing Islam, as insulting God is nullified by Islam. The tradition states that God said: 'My servant insulted Me, though it is not fitting for him to insult Me. His insult of Me is his saying, 'I have taken a son,' whereas I am the One, the Self-Sufficient, Who neither begot nor was born.' There is no disagreement that the Islam of a Christian who holds this belief erases his sin.
