What is the ruling if the thief has both sound hands but the right foot is paralyzed or amputated?
Chapter on Amputation in Theft
Al-Mughni
Book of Ḥudūd (Prescribed Penalties)
Primary text
There are two probable legal opinions. The first is that the right hand is amputated. This is the position of al-Shafi'i, based on the thief possessing a right hand, thus necessitating amputation in accordance with the Book (Quran) and the Sunnah, and because the thief possesses two hands, the right hand is cut, similar to if the left foot were the amputated limb. The second opinion is that nothing is cut from the thief, which is the position of the Ahl al-Ra'y, because amputating the right hand would eliminate the benefit of walking derived from both feet.
