What is the ruling if the thief's right hand is sound but the left hand has a significant defect impairing its function, such as the loss of the thumb, middle, or index finger?

It is considered whether this situation is equivalent to amputation, transferring the penalty to the foot. This is the view held by the Ahl al-Ra'y. Alternatively, the right hand may be amputated because the thief possesses a usable hand, similar to the case where only the little finger is missing.
