Primary text

The designated location for slaughter (*Mahal*) is the throat (*Halaq*) and the pit below the neck and chest (*Labba*). By consensus, slaughter in any other location is impermissible. This is supported by the narration that the slaughter is in the throat and the *Labba*. The rationale is that this area is the convergence of the major vessels, facilitating rapid loss of blood and life, which results in better meat quality and less suffering for the animal.

Supporting text

Ahmad mentioned a report suggesting that stabbing the thigh would suffice, but he considered the narrator of that report to be unknown. The preferred method for camels is necking (*Nahr*), and for other animals, cutting (*Dhabh*).
