General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hunting and Slaughter
Primary text
An animal killed by a net or rope is forbidden (haram). There is no known disagreement on this ruling among the scholars. This is because the killing was accomplished by means that lack a specified legal instrument for lawful hunting, similar to killing it with a pellet.

Al-Hasan held an aberrant opinion that if the hunter invokes the name of God (samma) before the animal enters the net or rope, the kill is permissible, even if the animal is wounded.
