Is the consumption of the domestic cat (Sinnawr al-Ahlī) permissible?

The consumption of the domestic cat is prohibited according to the opinion of our Imam (presumably Ahmad, given the context of the madhab structure), Malik, Abu Hanifah, and Al-Shafi'i. Evidence for this prohibition is found in the report that the Prophet, peace be upon him, forbade the eating of the cat (Al-Hirr).
