Is drinking wine for medicinal purposes permissible?

Drinking wine for the purpose of medicinal treatment is forbidden. This is established by the general prohibition previously mentioned. Furthermore, when *Nabidh* (fermented date/grape juice) was presented to the Prophet, peace be upon him, for use as medicine, he stated, "It is not medicine, but rather it is a disease."
