Primary text

Eating the monkey is prohibited. This view is held by Umar, 'Ata', Mujahid, Mak'hul, and Al-Hasan. The prohibition is supported by the report that the Prophet, peace be upon him, forbade the flesh of the monkey. Furthermore, the monkey is considered a predator (*saba'*) and falls under the general prohibition of predators, and it is also a transformed being (*maskh*), thus falling under the category of foul things (*khaba'ith*) that are forbidden.

Supporting text
