Primary text

If a Muslim releases his trained dog, and another trained dog accompanies it of its own accord, and they kill the game, the game is not permissible to eat, according to the opinion of the majority of the scholars, including Rabi'ah, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, Abu Thawr, and the People of Opinion (Ahl al-Ra'y). The basis for this is that the release of the dog upon the game is a prerequisite, which was not fulfilled for one of the dogs.
