Is game permissible if a hunter names Allah over an arrow, then sets it aside and uses another arrow?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hunting and Slaughter
Primary text
If a hunter names Allah over an arrow, then discards it and uses another arrow, the animal killed by the second arrow is not permissible, because the designation (tasmiyah) is considered tied to the instrument of killing, unlike the case of slaughtered animals (dhabihah).
Supporting text
It is plausible that the game would be permissible by analogy (qiyas) to the case where one names Allah over a knife, then discards it and uses another. However, the difficulty in specifying the exact quarry does not necessitate specifying the instrument, so the instrument's designation is not considered valid in this case.
