There are two established views on this matter. The first view holds that washing is not obligatory because God Almighty and His Messenger commanded the consumption of the game without commanding its washing. The second view mandates washing because the dog's saliva has been confirmed as impure (*najasah*), necessitating the washing of anything it touches, analogous to its urine.
