Is meat slaughtered by a Christian or Jew for their festivals permissible if they pronounce God's name alone?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hunting and Slaughter
Primary text
If a Jew or Christian slaughters the animal and names only God upon the slaughter, it is lawful because the required condition for permissibility is met. This is based on the saying of God: 'So eat of that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned' (Quran 6:118). However, its consumption is disliked because the intention of the slaughterer was directed towards something other than God.
Supporting text
The view held by Al-Qadi is that if a People of the Book slaughters for their festival, a star, an idol, or a prophet, and pronounces a name over the animal, it is forbidden based on the verse {And that which has been dedicated to other than Allah} (Quran 5:3). Dislike is attached to it due to the slaughterer's intention.
