Primary text

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not eat from a dining spread (khwan) or a small serving dish (sukrujah); rather, they ate from whatever was presented, such as from the ground (al-safar). Furthermore, one must not rise from the laid-out table until it is cleared. A person must not withdraw their hand even if satiated until the rest of the company has finished. One must excuse themselves out of consideration, as withdrawing one's hand prematurely might cause their companion embarrassment or distress, potentially causing them to restrain themselves when they still have a need for the food.

Supporting text

It is established that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade leaving food upon the spread until it was entirely removed.
