What is the ruling on consuming all types of sea creatures?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hunting and Slaughter
Primary text
All sea creatures are permissible to consume, according to the position of Al-Shafi'i. This ruling is derived from the comprehensive statement of the Almighty: "Permitted to you is the game of the sea and its food" (Quran 5:96). Additionally, it is reported from 'Ata and 'Amr ibn Dinar that they heard a report from the Prophet (peace be upon him) stating that God has ritually slaughtered everything in the sea for the son of Adam.
