Primary text

Predatory sea animals are disliked (Makruh) in consumption, similar to predatory land animals. This dislike stems from the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition against every animal with fangs (canine tooth) among predators.

Abu 'Ali Al-Najad stated that whatever is forbidden for its likeness on land is forbidden in the sea, such as the water dog, the pig, and man (referring to human consumption, which is implicitly forbidden). This is the view of Al-Layth, except for the water dog, for which he permits both the land and sea versions. Ibrahim Al-Nakha'i and others disliked predatory sea creatures based on the general prohibition against land predators.
