Primary text

Eating carrion is forbidden by unanimous agreement of the scholars when one is capable of choosing not to eat it. The foundational evidence is the saying of Allah Almighty: {He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it for pleasure] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him} [Quran 2:173]. The same ruling applies to all other prohibited things.
