Primary text

The weasel (Ibn Urs) is unlawful (haram) to consume. Imam Ahmad ruled that anything which tears with its fangs is considered a predator. This aligns with the position of Abu Hanifa and his associates. The basis for this ruling is that it is a predator falling under the general prohibition and it is considered repulsive and undesirable.

Supporting text

Imam Al-Shafi'i holds that the weasel is permissible (mubah) because it does not possess strong fangs, thus resembling the jerboa (Dabb).
