What is the ruling on meat slaughtered by a person who claims the animal is forbidden to them, without proof of that prohibition?

The meat slaughtered is lawful (halal). This is due to the generality of the verse permitting the food of the People of the Book (Quran 5:5). The mere assertion that something is forbidden is not accepted.
