Is the slaughtered animal (*dhabiha*) permissible if slaughtered by a person who converted to Christianity or Judaism?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hunting and Slaughter
Primary text
The slaughter of a person who converted to Christianity or Judaism is permissible, according to Al-Awza'i and Ishaq. Their evidence is that whoever aligns with a people is considered one of them. The main view, held by the majority including Al-Shafi'i, Abu Hanifa and his companions, states it is impermissible because such a person is an unbeliever who does not adhere to Islam, thus their slaughter is forbidden, similar to idol worshippers. This issue was previously discussed in the chapter on apostates.
