Distribution of estate when a father, paternal grandmother, and maternal great-grandmother are present?
Chapter on Distant Kindred (Dhawu al-Arham)
Al-Mughni
Book of Inheritance Shares (Farā'id)
Primary text
If a deceased leaves behind his father, his paternal grandmother (mother of the father), and the mother of his maternal grandmother, the father excludes the paternal grandmother from inheritance. The paternal grandmother, in turn, excludes the more distant maternal great-grandmother. According to the view that a grandmother is excluded by her son (the heir), and the more distant grandmother is excluded by the closer one, the entirety of the estate belongs to the father.
