What is the distribution if the full sister is present with three or more paternal sisters?
Chapter on Inheritance of the Grandfather
Al-Mughni
Book of Inheritance Shares (Farā'id)
Primary text
The grandfather receives only one-third (Al-Thuluth), and the full sister receives half. The remaining one-sixth is divided among the paternal sisters, regardless of their number.
Supporting text
If there are two or more full sisters, the paternal sisters receive nothing because the two full sisters are entitled to two-thirds, and the grandfather is entitled to no less than one-third. Since two-thirds plus one-third equals the whole estate, nothing remains for the paternal sisters. The full sisters exclude the paternal sisters by completing their two-thirds share. This is more certain when the grandfather is present than when he is absent.
