Al-Mughni
Book of Inheritance Shares (Farā'id)
Primary text
The husband receives one-half of the estate. The remainder is divided between the sister and the paternal grandfather such that the grandfather receives one share for every two shares the sister receives (a ratio of 1:2 for the remainder, resulting in a total division of three parts).
Supporting text
According to Ali and Ibn Mas'ud, the sister receives one-half, and the grandfather receives one-sixth. In this case, the shares augment (ʿālat) to seven parts.
