What is the division for the grandfather and two sisters when one sister is a full sister (from both parents) and the other two are half-sisters (from the father)?
Chapter on Inheritance of the Grandfather
Al-Mughni
Book of Inheritance Shares (Farā'id)
Primary text
The division is based on four shares: two for the grandfather, and one for each sister. The full sister then claims from her half-sister's share to complete her prescribed half share. The full sister's share is established against the paternal sister by counting her full sister counterpart, resulting in the grandfather receiving half, and the two sisters dividing the remaining half equally (one share each). The full sister takes the remainder from the paternal sister's hand to complete her full portion, leaving nothing for the paternal sister, similar to a case where the deceased leaves a daughter who takes half.
Supporting text
If there are two paternal sisters with the full sister, the wealth is divided into five shares: two for the grandfather, and three shared among the sisters. The full sister takes one and a half shares from her sister's portion to complete her half. The remaining half share is divided between the two paternal sisters (a quarter share each). The denominator is then adjusted to twenty: eight for the grandfather, ten for the full sister, and one share for each paternal sister.
