Primary text
If multiple collateral relatives trace lineage through a single person and are of the same degree of relationship, the estate is divided among them in proportion to their respective shares had they inherited from that connecting ancestor. For instance, if the paternal uncle's children (excluding the mother's siblings) and maternal uncles are present, the maternal uncles are excluded because the father's line (the uncle/paternal side) supersedes the mother's line (the maternal uncles) in this context, as the father supersedes siblings.
