If the husband dies after the first divorced wife's Iddah has ended, the inheritance belongs solely to the currently married wives. This is the position of Al-Shafi'i and Abu Hanifa and his companions.

An alternative narration states that the inheritance is shared among all four wives (implying the first divorced wife retains a share). Malik maintains that the inheritance belongs entirely to the first divorced wife because he considers the subsequent marriage invalid.
