Primary text

The fixed share for two daughters is two-thirds (2/3) of the estate. This is established by the consensus of the scholars, despite a rare narration from Ibn Abbas suggesting the share is half based on the literal reading of Quran 4:11. The ruling that two daughters receive two-thirds is confirmed by the Prophet's instruction to give two-thirds to the two daughters of Sa'd ibn al-Rabi', and by analogy with the fixed share of two full or paternal half-sisters (2/3).

There is scholarly debate regarding the specific proof establishing the two-thirds share for two daughters: some hold it is proven by the Quran (4:11) via interpretation that 'above two' implies it applies to two as well; others hold it is established by the authentic Sunnah (Prophet's instruction to give two-thirds to the daughters of Sa'd); still others cite inference or consensus.
