Chapter on Distant Kindred (Dhawu al-Arham)
Al-Mughni
Book of Inheritance Shares (Farā'id)
Primary text
If an heir is half-free, he receives half of what remains, unless one of the other two opinions regarding the division is adopted. In a scenario involving the son of a son who is one-third free, and a brother who is three-quarters free, the higher heir receives half, the second heir receives one-third of the remainder (which is one-sixth), and the brother receives three-quarters of the remainder (which is one-fourth).
Supporting text
According to the other opinion, the son receives half, the son of the son receives one-third, and the remainder goes to the brother.
