Book of Inheritance Shares (Farā'id)
Primary text
The female heirs are the daughter, then the daughter's daughter, the mother, the grandmother, the sister, the wife, and the freedwoman (mawlat an-ni'mah). These are all agreed upon as heirs. The inheritance of the wife is established by {And for you is half of what your deceased leave if they have no child} [Quran 4:12], and {And for them is a fourth of what you leave if you have no child} [Quran 4:12] for the wives. The grandmother's share of one-sixth was established when the Prophet, peace be upon him, gave her one-sixth.
Supporting text
The inheritance of the freedwoman is established by the Prophetic statement, peace be upon him: 'Loyalty belongs to the one who frees the slave.' The daughters are established by {Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females} [Quran 4:11].
