Why does ownership not cease immediately upon apostasy for one who joins the abode of war?

Ownership does not cease immediately because the apostate is a free person capable of legal action, and his ownership remains established after he embraces Islam, similar to the case where apostasy did not occur. Therefore, what was taken or destroyed must be returned to him, just as it would be for any other person.
