Primary text

The rule dictates prioritizing the nearer relation to the inheriting ancestor if both relations descend from the same side. If they descend from two different sides, the more distant relative is placed relative to their closest inheriting relative. What the person through whom they descend would have inherited is then given to them. This aligns with the opinion of the majority of those who employ the method of calculating descent (al-munazzilin).

The more common opinion among the scholars of Iraq dictates dividing the mother's share equally among her maternal uncle, maternal aunt, paternal uncle, and paternal aunt (into three shares). Similarly, the father's share is divided among his paternal aunts and maternal aunts.
