Primary text

The consensus among scholars of the major centers (*Ummah*) upholds the standard distribution for siblings. However, Ibn Mas'ud and his followers differed regarding the residue when the full siblings have completed two-thirds. Ibn Mas'ud assigned the remaining portion to the males among the paternal siblings exclusively, excluding the females. If there is one full sister, and paternal brothers and sisters, he assigned the females among the paternal siblings the lesser of what they would receive by division (muqasama) or one-sixth, assigning the remainder to the males, similar to his ruling concerning the son's daughter with the son's daughters.

Supporting text

The general ruling affirmed by the consensus of scholars, supported by Quran 4:176, dictates that if there are two or more full sisters, they take two-thirds, and if there is one full sister, she takes one-half. This ruling is established by the explicit text of the Quran concerning the *kalalah* (deceased without direct descendants) and is understood by scholarly consensus to apply to full siblings and paternal siblings.
