Primary text
In the first degree, there are two potential grandmothers: the maternal grandmother and the paternal grandmother. In the second degree, there are four potential grandmothers, as each of the deceased's parents has two grandmothers relative to the deceased. In the third degree, there are eight potential grandmothers. The number doubles with each ascending degree, but only three are permitted to inherit.
