Primary text
The hadith narrated via Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman from the Prophet (peace be upon him) may be challenged as mursal (disconnected chain where a Successor narrates directly from the Prophet). However, this objection is overcome because Malik and Musa bin Uqbah narrated it via Al-Zuhri, from Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayrah, making it musnad (connected). Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and Al-Daraqutni narrated it connectedly in their Sunan collections. Thus, the omission of the chain link by one narrator does not harm the validity established by those who provided the full chain. Moreover, even if considered mursal, it is still considered binding evidence (hujjah).
