Primary text
If there is a creditor whose debt originates from a *salam* contract (forward sale), they are not permitted to take anything other than the exact commodity specified in their contract. This restriction applies even if both parties agree to exchange it for its value. This prohibition is due to the principle that the commodity owed (*ma fi al-dhimmah*) from a *salam* contract cannot have its equivalent accepted in place of it, based on the Prophet's saying: 'Whoever enters into a *salam* for something, he shall not exchange it for something else.'
